Network faults hopefully occur on a rare occasion, if at all. However, in mission critical applications such as security surveillance, access control, and telephony... it is imperative network faults are detected immediately, notifications sent to the appropriate people, and measures are immediately implemented to resolve the fault.

This patent pending software utility runs as a background service and uses minimal host system resources.

Network Connectivity Monitoring :

The software monitors for network connectivity of PoE devices, non-PoE devices, wireless links, and virtually any network equipment the user wants monitored. The System Administrator simply clicks what devices they want monitored.

Scalable Network Connectivity Monitoring : Network Connectivity Monitoring, quite simply, monitors mission critical network hardware to ensure connectivity exists, and that a network connection has not failed. Our software solution is designed to use a minimal amount of valuable network bandwidth. Snapshots are taken of the network to ensure each monitored network connection is in operation. Moreover, system administrators have the ability to customize and adjust the monitoring interval to their specific comfort level, or network traffic demands (every minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc.).

Selectable Network Connectivity Monitoring : Not all network nodes are mission critical, and monitoring un-need network hardware can unnecessarily use valuable bandwidth. Our software solution identifies all network connections on a given network, and allows system administrators to pick and choose which connections they want monitored. This is particularly important when bandwidth is at a premium.

Nicknames : Initial identification of the network hardware being monitored is made via MAC address. However, System Administrators also have the ability to nickname each device being monitored in order to more easily identify the exact location of a network connectivity fault (For example, 'ABC CORP #723 Front Reception Camera').

Fault Detection & Initial FAULT Notification :

Download AEI Network & Wireless Cards drivers

When a network fault is detected, an Initial Fault Notification is sent via pop-up and sound on the host system. Furthermore, email and/or SMS text alerts to one or more recipients can be configured. The email contains a complete report as an text attachment that describes the fault in detail (MAC address, IP address, Nickname, etc.) This feature quickly alerts team members that a fault was detected no matter where they are located allowing them to more quickly respond and identify the cause.

The AEI Fault Tolerant Utility will also provide progressive fault notifications. When a network connectivity fault is detected, an initial alert will be sent. After a short period of time, the utility will check again to determine if the link has re-established. Another alert message will be sent advising of a 'Fatal Error' or 'Fault Resolved' depending on the results of second node test. This feature is of particular interest for those utilizing PoE Advanced Power Management (discussed below).

Advanced Power Management (APM) :

Advance Power Management (or 'APM') provides users and system administrators the ability to RESET PoE power without having to reboot the host system. By resetting PoE power, it subsequently reboots PoE devices sourcing it's power from the AEI embedded switch. As the most common of network faults occurs as a result of hardware failures or locked devices, by rebooting these devices the software attempts to resolve the fault without direct human intervention.

Local & Remote Access PoE Reset : Local and authorized remote access users have the ability to reset PoE Power via the Graphical User Interface (GUI) with the simply click of a mouse. When a reset command is made, the software can be configured to automatically send an email/SMS notification to one or more recipients notifying them of the PoE Reset. The software therefore attempts to resolve the fault without direct human intervention (pushing reset buttons, unplugging power cables, etc.).

Automatic PoE Reset on FAULT : System Administrators have the ability to configure the software to AUTOMATICALLY reset PoE Power when a network fault is detected, thereby rebooting PoE devices without rebooting the host system (or Network Video Recorder). It provides a unique solution that attempts to resolve the fault without any human intervention. When an automatic reset occurs the software can be configured to send email/SMS alerts to one or more individuals notifying them of the PoE reset.

Progressive Fault Notifications: As mentioned above, the software will generate an initial fault notification via email/SMS text when a network fault is first detected. The software will wait long enough time for an automatic fault PoE RESET to occur and network connectivity to re-establish. The utility will then will re-check all monitored devices. If the fault was resolved, a Progressive Notification via email/SMS message is sent with a 'FAULT RESOVLED' notification. If the network fault still remains, a 'FATAL ERROR' alert is sent.

Multiple Device Support :

The AEI Fault Tolerant Utility is designed to support video surveillance or VoIP networks, SOHO networks, and enterprise-wide mission critical networks where uptime is of paramount importance. Businesses rely on their networks for data, communication, and backbone operations. A network fault can impact the bottom line of your business. Continuous monitoring enables you to find problems and resolve them before they escalate.

Virtually every type of device, regardless of whether its a PoE device, Non-PoE device, server, network client, or router can be monitored with the Fault Tolerant Utility.

Improved Quality of Service (QoS) and High Reliability :

Greater uptime equates to greater quality of service and reliability. The AEI Fault Tolerant Utility quickly detects, diagnoses, and assist system administrators in resolving connectivity issues. Moreover, it incorporates patent pending technology that uniquely and automatically attempts to resolve network connectivity issues with little to no user intervention.

The Annual Engineer’s Inspection has been introduced recently as an alternative to existing UKPMS visual surveys and, although the AEI is not a current UKPMS affiliated survey, the survey is popular amongst Local Authorities due to the ease in which maintenance schemes and treatments are identified and summarised following an assessment on site. The survey has been designed with engineering judgement in mind so our background in pavement engineering, from graduate level through to fully CIHT chartered, affords us the expertise to deliver your AEI survey requirements in line with our comprehensive internal audit regime.

Ultimately, AEI focuses on treatment selection as opposed to raw defect identification and treatment length can be defined in accordance with your local rules in mind. In turn this supports lifecycle analysis and wider asset management.

  • Rapid, network-level assessment of carriageway and footway condition
  • Defined treatment selections and maintenance schemes support decision-makers
  • Safe survey procedure with minimal disruption to road users
  • Simplified and easily reportable results to aid understanding at all levels
  • Survey customisable to local requirements
  • Utilises pavement engineering and materials expertise in condition assessment

Whether you are a pavement engineer, asset manager or council member, highway condition data needs to be easily understood and in a format that can be shared readily. As AEI focuses on treatment selection as opposed to defect identification, the data requires less technical input or analysis post-survey.

Consequently, the data collated can be utilised to drive maintenance scheme development and prioritisation, and lifecycle analysis. The survey is also very flexible allowing for different treatment information to be collated dependent on client requirements. For example, average scheme lengths or specialist treatment types that are championed at a local level can be incorporated into the survey specification.

PTS are unique within the industry in being able to monitor and report on the progress of survey activity in near real time using our in-house ReGen software. The system affords 24-hour access to clients, allowing data validation, analysis, and delivery to be done seamlessly. Clients can also view network condition using an intuitive Red-Amber-Green styling to provide valuable condition information in rapid timescales.

Moreover, with pavement engineering and materials testing at the core of our business, we also have a detailed understanding of highway materials and treatments, ensuring our certified engineering team has the right level of expertise for meeting AEI surveying standards and for making the right treatment selections within your local area.

PTS offer a variety of complimentary UKPMS services including SCANNER, SCRIM, CVI, DVI and FNS in addition to AEI. We also provide asset inventory surveys and can offer bespoke surveying services. Looking for post-survey analysis and reporting support, our consultancy team are also able to provide a variety of statutory and tailored consultancy solutions.
